Heart Chakra Healing: Grief, Trust, and Opening to Connection
Part of the Chakra Balancing in Taipei series.
The heart chakra (Anahata) sits at the centre of the chest — appropriately, it’s also the name behind Anahata Healing Studio, because it’s the bridge chakra: the point where the more physical lower chakras meet the more expressive upper ones. It governs love, compassion, and your capacity for genuine connection, both with others and with yourself.
| Sanskrit name | Anahata |
| Location | Centre of the chest |
| Element | Air |
| Governs | Love, compassion, connection, forgiveness |
Signs Your Heart Chakra Is Blocked
- Difficulty trusting people, even when there’s no clear reason not to
- Holding onto grudges or unresolved grief
- Feeling emotionally walled off, even in close relationships
- Physical tightness in the chest or shallow, restricted breathing
- Giving to others constantly while struggling to receive care yourself
What Tends to Cause It
Heart chakra blockages usually form as protection, not failure — a response to grief, heartbreak, or repeated disappointment that taught the body it’s safer to close off than stay open. This is one of the most common chakras clients want to work on, and one of the most misunderstood: an emotional wall isn’t a character flaw, it’s a nervous system doing what it learned to do to stay safe.
Signs It’s Overactive
An overactive heart chakra can look like poor boundaries — over-giving to the point of self-neglect, or taking on other people’s emotional burdens as your own.
How to Start Healing It
- Chest-opening movement — gentle backbends or simply rolling your shoulders back and breathing into an open chest, physically countering the protective, closed posture grief often creates
- Green visualisation — traditionally the heart chakra’s colour; picture a soft green light expanding from your chest with each breath
- Unfiltered journalling toward forgiveness — not for the other person’s benefit, but to loosen the grip old resentment has on your own nervous system
- Small acts of receiving — practice accepting help, a compliment, or care from someone without deflecting it

When to Consider a Session
Grief and old emotional walls are often exactly the kind of thing that responds better to guided, hands-on Reiki work than to solo journalling — there’s a reason chest tightness and breath restriction show up so physically. Book a session focused on the heart chakra.
Continue upward to the throat chakra, which governs whether you can actually voice what’s in that open heart, or revisit the solar plexus below it. Not sure which chakra needs attention first? Take the quiz.
